Youth Show Rules

Thank you everyone who participated in 2010!!

Eligibility.

The Northeast Livestock Expo events are open to all youth. Ages for participants for goat & sheep events are 7 to 20 (as of show day) and for beef events 9 to 20 (as of show day). All participants are required to show an animal in showmanship class or the youth is ineligible to show in any other class, unless prior approval has been granted by Northeast Livestock Expo's Youth Director.

Number of Entries.

Participants are allowed to show up to two animals in each type class. Dairy participants are limited to two animals, three if one is entered unclipped. Entries must be received by May 1, 2011.**Exception: Animals purchased in any of the sales at NELE are asked to register them with the Youth director by Sat. 9pm Northeast Livestock Expo reserves the right to limit the total number of animals. Ownership.

Youth will be allowed to borrow an animal from any exhibitor and show that animal in showmanship class only. Leased animals will be allowed if registered on entry form and a signed approval form from county extension office is presented. Only animals leased or owned will be eligible for type classes. Youth must have the animal in their possession and take care of the animal for the duration of this event.

With an IBGA Sanctioned Youth Show all animals must be registered in the youth’s name. For a complete listing of rules please refer to: www.intlboergoat.org

Animal Control

All animals must be in control by the youth in the ring. The youth must be able to control the animal alone, unless special arrangements have been made with the Youth Director prior to the show, i.e. animal in heat. Any animal that appears unmanageable may be excluded from the show at the discretion of the Northeast Livestock Expo Youth Committee.

Period of Show

All animals must be on the grounds and checked in no later than 9 pm Friday. If you are going to participate in the type classes Friday evening then you are required to have those animals checked in by 4pm. At no time is an adult allowed to clip, groom, fit or shear an animal or the animal will immediately be disqualified and asked to leave the grounds. Youth are expected to do their own chores. Parents may help with chores if needed, but if you are on the grounds, the care of your animal is YOUR responsibility and you are required to do it. All youth participants are encouraged to show guidance to younger youth, also parents may provide verbal assistance for junior participants. Any exceptions will be requested through the Youth Committee at least 1 week prior to the show. Animals MUST be well fed, watered and kept clean in the stall at all times. Youth are responsible for keeping their animal, stall, aisle, tack areas and areas out in front and behind the barn clean. Appropriate show attire –khaki or dark green, white for dairy, navy blue or black pants, polo or dress shirts tucked in neatly and proper footwear- is required for the show ring and the sale ring.

Entry Forms

All applications for entry must be made on the designated entry form; entry forms are available online at www.northeastlivestockexpo.com and are due to Darlene Newcombe, PO Box 11, Coopers Mills, ME 04341 no later than May 1, 2010.

False Statements

Any youth who willfully falsifies any information given to the event officials will be disqualified and asked to leave the grounds immediately and will be ineligible for future contests.

Equipment

Youth should bring everything they need to properly care for their animal at the expo.

Identification and paperwork required.

All animals must be properly ear tagged or tattooed. A copy of the registration paper and or lease form signed by the County 4-H Educator is required. Non 4-H participants or thise 20 years old must attach a written, signed statement with entry registration information to entry form.

Reservation

The Northeast Livestock Youth Committee reserve the right to amend or add to these rules and regulation as in its judgment may be deemed necessary.

Unsuitable animals

The Northeast Livestock Expo Youth Committee, after inspection, will eliminate any animals from the competition that do not meet the standard required for a quality show. Any animal eliminated from the show shall be removed from the barn. Steers, Market lambs, & Wethers.

All steers must be born after January 1, 2010. Market lambs and wethers must be less than a year old. Weigh in will be at 8:00 am Sunday for both beef steers and market lambs.

Liability

Participants will indemnify and hold harmless the Expo for all damage, expenses or liabilities incurred as a result of any expense, loss, claims, cost or any liability, including, but not limited to, consultant fees, legal or court cost, Expo management labor expenses and or cost, as well as expensed and or cost for blood, tissue, urine, milk or carcass sampling and testing incurred as a result of Expo rule and regulation violations and all agreements here in, including, but not limited to unethical fitting, filling, illegal or non-approved use of drugs, medication and or prohibited substance as a result of participants involvement in the Expo.
