Preconditioning Protocol
- Weaning to sale date must be a minimum of 45 days. For the 2011 sale, wean by April 6, 2011.
- A series of two modified live (MLV) respiratory complex (5-way consisting of IBR, PI3, BVD I & II, BRSV) vaccinations, in 21 to 28 days but no later than May 7 for Spring Sale (14 days prior to the sale).
- ***Two Pasteurella vaccinations. This is on the recommendation of our vet based on an increased incidence of Pasteurella outbreaks in Maine.
- Treatment of internal and external parasites.
- Dehorning and castration must be healed.
- Spring: One clostridial (7-way) plus pinkeye vaccine.
Product Options
The products listed below are suggestions. There may be others that provide coverage of the diseases listed above. To meet all conforming guidelines, make sure that protocol details listed above are met with whatever vaccines are used.

**Pfizer does not offer a 7-way combined with pinkeye vaccine. In addition to the options above, Schering-Plough carries Piliguard Pinkeye + 7.
Yearlings that received protocol as calves need boosters. Yearlings not receiving protocol as calves need to follow the time schedule and receive initial and booster vaccinations.
Cattle not meeting preconditioning protocol will be separated and sold as nonconforming cattle.
Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) recommends using subcutaneous (SC) products when possible, 16-18 gauge needles, ½ to ¾ inch for SQ, 1 to 1-½ inch for IM.
Vaccines work best with reduced stress including weaning, nutrition and handling.

Insurance
All Exhibitors and Consignor’s with livestock at the Expo are required to provide proof of liability insurance with a
minimum of $300,000 coverage.
Send Certificate of Insurance or copy of Maine Association of Livestock
Exhibitors Membership card with your entries. Check the health and insurance
